Some decades after the idea and the term of degrowth were introduced the movement increased its popularity, yet is, nonetheless missing its broad support in the society and the scientific research areas. Reason for that might be a considerable number of critics that are partially missing a response from the degrowth literature. Some critics point out to a lack of interaction with class struggles, to a weakness through its plurality in its definitions, to the unspecific actors for a societal transformation and the chosen name 'degrowth'. Further, receives the degrowth literature critiques due to its focus on growth and not capitalist structures directly. And also the proposed funding strategies and the idea of de-commodifying the economy experience headwind.
Some degrowth adherents have found clear counter arguments for these critiques. Others however remain yet unanswered. Thus reviewing these critiques might help the degrowth movement in finding new strategies, innovative methods and more support.
