POSTGROWTH S.A. Rural is a citizen science project led by the University of Vigo, in which pupils and teachers from schools investigate how nature conservation and protection plans and policies take into account the reality of rural communities. These policies aim to protect ecosystems, species and natural areas, but they can also influence the activities, land use and ways of life of the people who live there.

Throughout the academic year, pupils will investigate cases close to their local area to understand how these decisions are made and what effects they have on the daily lives of rural communities. They will analyse which local needs, knowledge and practices are taken into account, which people and organisations are involved in the decision-making process, and where agreements, benefits, difficulties or conflicts arise between conservation objectives and the reality on the ground. To this end, they will collect and analyse information using various research techniques and compare their findings with the community and with pupils from other schools.
